Dating curriculum

A total of 221 students completed both the pretest and posttest exams, of whom 32 were from the private school.

Pretest levels of knowledge of dating violence were low.

The Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence (FCADV) in partnership with its membership organizations and the Florida Department of Education developed resource curricula, including supplementary materials and teacher training, addressing teen dating violence for grades 7 through 12 to satisfy the requirements of Florida Statutes 1006.1.42.Session 4: How to Help Friends: Students learn why it is difficult to leave abusive relationships and how to help a friend if she or he is in an abusive relationship.Session 5: Helping Friends: Students practice effective skills for helping friends who are abused or confronting friends who are abusing.Students who took the exam prior to curriculum implementation and after the program was completed were assessed for knowledge of dating violence.The curriculum was an adaptation of the SAFE Dates Program and consisted of ten 50-minutes sessions that were taught over a period of five weekends.Florida Statute 1006.148 mandates the following: Florida Statute 1003.42 requires that a teen dating violence and abuse component must be added to the comprehensive health education curriculum for students in grades 7 through 12.
